DISPLEASURE CITY - A VISUAL TRAGEDY 2003 - 2005
Displeasure City is an epic story; its narrative style is derived from traditional Greek tragedy. Using the stylistic rules of writing drama as described in ‘Poetica’ by Aristotle, Efrat Zehavi translates these rules into visual and sculptural instructions. Instead of actors on a stage, the viewers construct the narrative themselves by ‘traveling’ through the scenes. The viewer unravels the play by walking through the exhibition spaces as if they were the literary acts of the piece; his or her own tempo becomes the playing time of this tragedy.
